I'm talkin' typical North East weather in the mountains in the summer... usually 80s. If you tuck it in with your clothes and don't bother it, frozen steak'll still be hard on day 1, getting soft on day 2, better eat it on day 3 'cause on day 4 it'll be iffy. Probably wouldn't last that long somewhere hotter, and certainly not in Death Valley.
I've picked up freeze dried stuff a few times when there was a good deal on it, it ain't that bad really. The thing I don't like about it is the price.
