If you tuck it in with your clothes and don't bother it, frozen steak'll still be hard on day 1, getting soft on day 2, better eat it on day 3 'cause on day 4 it'll be iffy. Probably wouldn't last that long somewhere hotter, and certainly not in Death Valley.

I've picked up freeze dried stuff a few times when there was a good deal on it, it ain't that bad really. The thing I don't like about it is the price.
