The way I saw it was getting TBC will lock you into another 1000+ hours of sitting in front of your computer. I guess the same was true for any other MMO, but it's hard to stop when WoW reaches out to people that normally wouldn't get into EQ or DAoC.
To quote myself...

I eventually did give in. In April 2007, I fell to TBC's cravings, with the promise that the purpose was to play with my RL college buddies in order to keep in touch (they moved to Colorado, Minnesota, South Carolina). I fell back into my old habits and started raiding, and eventually quit in early January 2008.

I met my girlfriend a couple weeks later, and for the past 7+ months I've been clean!

To be honest though, I still crave it. Although I've found someone who I can see myself settling down with, I haven't talked to my college buddies in 7 months because I dropped the game. So I long to play it casually on the "off nights" I have with the gf. She knows all about how addicting it can be, so she tries to keep me strong against playing it. I guess that's the path I need to take.

Damn, it IS a drug for some people!
