I really think it depends on the room and the sound you prefer, but I think the rockets like 10-14 inches of room from the walls. Adjust to your preferences though: honestly.
I have mine at a slight toe-in (angle) to help keep my seat in the sweet spot. I sit about 14' away. I have my rear 450s pointing directly at me, instead of to the front. They're also at the side, instead of behind the seat.

I seriously hope you like them. I'm to the point where I prefer waiting for movies to come out on BluRay because of these bad-boys.

If you have a BR, go get Iron man and watch the opening Humvee scene once you get your sub in. (Or the final gunfight in Open Range.)
