I use the same method Nija uses to clean my pot after I cook oatmeal if I have anything stuck to the walls of the pot.
I also use a double pot like
this one. The one I use is a heavier stainless steel than the one in the link. You fill the bottom pot with water and place the other pot on top and use it to cook the oatmeal, cream of wheat, cocoa wheat, etc...
