i've done the rice cooker, but mines is a pretty simple, cook/warm switch. you have to be careful though because if you use the normal amount of water, the sticky goo is going to start to spit out of the seals and make a bigger mess. you actually have to use a little less water than stovetop but you have to soak the oats in it for at least a 1/2 hour before you start to cook it.
there's the fancy rice cookers that actually have a oatmeal setting, which you don't have to deal with any of that.

Also, for another cooking vessel, you can use a slow cooker like Alton Brown does it here
