The credit reporting agencies don't deny or approve anybody's claim. They simply report what information they're given.
When you dispute an item on your credit report, the creditor has 30 days to affirm that claim. If they don't, it drops off your report. However, the longer you let stuff sit, the more likely it is to be re-reported again in the future. This is especially true if that debt has been sold to a third-party collector.
That's why people need to stay on top of their credit reports.
