I also work for a software development company, and we use Linux as a server platform for a variety of small things, but never as a desktop OS - Windows is way, WAY more appropriate because everyone is already very familiar & comfortable with it.

It really all boils down to what you're comfortable with, tho. If you've always used (whatever OS), that's the one you'll be the most productive with. But If you want to learn a new technology, Linux is the best because 1) it's free, and 2) there's so much peer support for it out there.
