The cool thing is that alot of ford vehicles are doing "reverse" platform sharing.

Volvo S80/S60/V70 --> Ford Freestyle, Ford 500, mercury montego
Mazda 6 --> ford 400 (futura) and lincoln zypher
Land rover Disco 3 (LR3) --> Next Explorer
Mazda3/Volvos40/euro focus (global C1 architecture)

The amazing thing is how Ford keeps obvious driving, design, and look differences while sharing some components (mostly manifolds, common tanks, and fuel pumps, etc.) that are not visible to the average driver.

The mazda 3 and the volvo S40 both look totally different and drive totally different, are made on different continents, and only really share similar blueprints and best practices for manufacturing and unseen design components (like safety engineers from Sweden helped Mazda beef up their safety).

it's not a GM-ization of products like...well...GM
