USB to Ethernet
I use a USB to Ethernet adapter with my computer.
Theoretically you can get two of those - one for each computer - connected by an ethernet cable. It is recognized by Win9x as a 10/100 Fast Ethernet adapter although transfer rates are bottlenecked to 10mbps. The 100 is just there for compatibility with people who have 100 hubs/switches.
They only cost around $38 a piece. SMC and DLink makes them
