I finally got my car delivered from Houston, Texas and noted a layer of sand and salt over most of the engine.
It did take a car carrier through the midwest, including a snow storm in Wyoming, so that might have been it too.
The title is clean (checked carfax), but that just means they never made an insurance claim for the damage.
Any way to know what happened and if it was underwater, what should I be concerned about? It seems to run fine and the inside is spotless.
