So I'd like to hook up an external HD to my wireless router to dump files and back up stuff. Can anyone recommend a good one for this job? I see this one at Costco.com (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11101199&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&s=1), but it's not a brand I've heard of, which makes me a bit leery of it. I also see this Buffalo one (http://www.buy.com/prod/Buffalo_250GB_LinkStation_Network_Storage_Center/q/loc/101/10377700.html), but that is not a brand I know either. With HDs I tend to stick with Seagate or WD since I know them. I don't want to lose my data to save a few bucks.

I need to stay under $300. Around $200 would be even better. At this point I don't need tons of storage. 100GB would go a long way, but I am not opposed to buying 200 GB or more while I am at it. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

The first one is from SimpleTech, which is a fairly well known brand at the lower/bargain price end of the spectrum. However, it's still a reliable brand, and I'd bet if you pop that box open you'll see a Seagate or WD drive staring at you.

Buffalo is a fairly new player in the game, but they have some amazing products at the lower end of the business segment. While I've never used one, I might still recommend this one over the SimpleTech, mainly based on reviews of their TerraStation (which I'm trying to find an excuse to buy):

A third one I'd recommend is the Maxtor Shared Storage drive -

Thanks for the recommendations Jeff.

Any reason to choose the Maxtor over a WD of about the same size?

Only if the price difference is significant. WD and Seagate are the big 2 for quality.
