Argument May Have Preceded Cruise Ship Jump
NEW YORK (May 28) - A passenger was spotted jumping overboard from a cruise ship returning from the British Virgin Islands, but no sign of the person was found after searching half a day, officials said Sunday.
Carnival Cruise Lines said in a statement that its Carnival Legend vessel was on route from Tortola just after 1 a.m. Saturday when the passenger was reported overboard.
U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Mike Lutz said a C-130 airplane crew was sent to help with the search but didn't provide other details.
The Carnival Corp. did not identify the missing passenger.
Passengers said they were told a father of a young child had argued with his wife in his cabin before jumping over a balcony. They said a call of "Bravo, bravo," used to alert crew members to a serious incident, was heard over the ship's announcement system.

Yep. I doubt if he was pushed, but suicide by cruise ship is pretty rare. :)
I mean, it's a relatively expensive venture to begin with, but at least he probably had a beautiful view of the Virgin Islands before he took the plunge. More creative than my usual assortment of attempted shootings, hangings, overdoses, cuttings, etc...

My wife and I have cruised a number of times. Its pretty sad. I feel sorry for his kids. I read on another board that he did it in front of his wife and kids. Not to add to the panic but here is an interesting site which has all the incidents that have happened to passengers and ships. My wife and I like to stick to RCL or Princess which have fewer things that seem to go wrong.

I'm not against cruising, but usually when I opt to fork over $$ on a vacation I tend to plan ones where I see some stuff, not just do stuff.
Like historic places, museums, events, gatherings etc.

I would be open to a cruise, but I'm a land lover myself. When my aunt and uncle went on a cruise, a known child molestor took an interest in my cousin. When she reported him to the crew and boat security, there wasn't much they could do as they were on International water and she only had verbal evidence on him, he told he wanted to do things to her son, but didn't actually do them, no real proof.

I'm disturbed at the number of incidents, it's scary. At the same time, they can't be worse than what happens over the normal course of life in a city. Sad.

What really sucks is if he had life insurance, he just voided the policy because
almost (if not) all companies do not pay on suicide. :bawl:

Thats odd, considering they're all owned by the Carnival corporation.
I'm going on this boat in January. In fact, I read somewhere else that he jumped off the deck I'll be staying on. I'll have to remember not to jump off the balcony. :)

RCI isn't. RCI's the other cruise conglomerate, with Celebrity under their belt, too.
