May 30, 2006 - SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) - A western Ohio woman has been charged with child endangering after authorities say she allowed her 13-year-old son to drive to a friend's house with his six-year-old brother in the car.
The Clark County sheriff's department says Edna Jane Caudill of London was taken into custody yesterday after authorities pulled over her teenage son. He insisted his mother gave him permission, and authorities say Caudill admitted she had.

She was charged with two counts of child endangering and one count of wrongful entrustment.

Sadly enough, stories like this no longer surprise or shock me. There are so many parents out there who can't take care of themselves much less children. The worst part, it will probably only continue to get worse.

The only way to curb behavior like this is to punish it severely.

And the question is why did she admit to it? Most likely the child wouldn't have even gotten in trouble with the cops due to his age.

If she's stupid enough to let her underage kid drive her toddler around, she's probably not the sharpest tool in the shed. Probably couldn't manufacture an appropriate lie. Or maybe she's just dumb, not dishonest???

eh who knows.. But there are a lot of small towns where it's perfectly normal to see a 14 year old driving.. granted this kid is 13.. but they probably do that to. Atleast they do in Oklahoma.

While the woman is an idiot... I think of sixth grade.

I had a family whose parents taught him to drive when he was twelve, and he would be seen driving their minivan around town. If I remember correctly, he was from Yugoslavia and his father was a filmmaker. They wanted him to know how to drive because they planned on going back and if worst came to pass, they'd have someone else able to drive.

Are there places where it's legal to do this?

In the US, I think the only exception to the minimum driver's age (which I think is at least 16 for an operator's license) is for agricultural purposes.

I believe that there are some states the either a) have a lower age limit or b) have stipulations in place for extremely rural areas. I think that there are some areas in Wyoming that allow kids as young as 13 or 14 to legally operate a car but I am not certain.

i'm all for kids driving.....just make sure that they turn off their cellphone.

seriously. i learnt to drive when i was 12.
legally if you owned a place big enough to practice, nothing can stop someone from teaching their kid to drive on their own private property.

but then again......not to be sexist.....females are not the sharpest of the bunch.....nor are they the best drivers...so it makes sense.....
