Surveillance: Robbers Try To Kill Clerk On Her First Day

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Talk about a tough day at work. Armed robbers tried to kill a new store clerk during her very first day on the job.

Two armed men walked into a sub shop in Hollywood, Florida last weekend. The terrified cashier had only been working at the restaurant for a total of one hour.

The entire incident was captured on tape by a security camera.

Police said, when the armed suspects came into the restaurant, one of them jumped over the counter, put a gun to the cashier's head and demanded money from the terrified woman. The second suspect held a gun at the customers.

The cashier was so new at the restaurant, she didn't even know how to open the register. That's when the gunman pulled the trigger, not once, but twice.

"Suffice it to say that, had the gun been loaded or if the gun did not malfunction, we probably would've had a young female shot, possibly even killed, over a couple hundred dollars in a register," said Tony Rode, Hollywood Police Department.

It's unknown whether or not the gun was loaded or if it jammed.

"The first day on the job and not even an hour on the job, so this is quite an experience for her. She's very shaken up and, fortunately now, she's doing very well," said store owner Anthony Kallas.

The second suspect grabbed a customer's purse and rummaged through it before they both ran out of the restaurant without any money.

"Something must've spooked them. I guess they realized that someone was going to call the police at that point, so they just took off, which was very fortunate that no one got hurt," Kallas said.

Eyewitnesses got a good look at the getaway car, but so far police have not caught up with the robbers. At this point, the frightened cashier said she would not give up her job at the sub shop.
