Man arrested for allegedly setting girlfriend on fire
Posted 6/7/06
BAKERSFIELD - A man who took his girlfriend to the country and allegedly set her on fire earlier this week was arrested.
Bakersfield Police said the incident happened Tuesday morning, in the Foothills east of Pioneer Drive.
Authorities said that's where Israel Evaro Jr., 29, doused his girlfriend with gasoline and then lit her on fire.
Investigators said he then took her to Kern Medical Center for treatment.
The woman, who is in her mid-30’s, was suffering from severe burns to 55 percent of her body, according to police.
“After their interview with Evaro, they believe he intentionally doused the victim with gas the set her on fire,” said BPD’s Det. Paslay. “He’s charged with attempted murder, arson, spousal abuse and being under the influence.”
Court records show that Evaro was scheduled to be in court on Monday on charges that he beat and terrorized the same woman.
Evaro is now scheduled to be arraigned on the additional charges Thursday.
He’s being held on $675,000 bail.
The victim, whose name is not being released, was airlifted to University Medical Center in Fresno for treatment.
She is in critical condition.

I dunnno, cheapie...I thought it was kinda funny. :)
I've had a few ex-gfs who would have done the same thing had they thought of it. My "burning alive" illusion wouldn't work so well in public doused with gas, though. Ouch.
But it's not just the dudes, it's the chicks that turn psycho and do things like that as well. With guys though, it usually involves guns, in my experience in ERs, etc. With chicks, it usually involves cutting tools...

Here's an update on the lady that was set on fire.
Mother pleads for help for daughter who was set on fire
"Her face is gone, she has no lips, her ears are burnt, she is burned from the belly button up," said Shirley Keeney describing the condition of her daughter, 38 year-old Jacqueline Ortiz.
Ortiz is hospitalized with third degree burns over more than 55% of her body and is in critical condition at University Medical Center in Fresno.
Police say Ortiz's 29 year-old boyfriend, Israel Evaro Jr doused gasoline on her and then set her on fire Tuesday morning.
Keeney flew back to Bakersfield from New Jersey after learning of the incident.
"I'm in shock...I pray that she passes, because she'll be disfigured for the rest of her life," said Keeney.
Evaro was already awaiting trial on an unrelated spousal abuse charge. In March, Evaro was arrested for allegedly beating Ortiz.
"She pressed charges, and she said she wasn't going to take him back...But he kept calling and writing letters to her saying 'I've changed, I've changed, oh baby'," said Keeney.
Evaro convinced Ortiz to take him back. Now Keeney is pleading for the public's help.
"If anybody knows anything about them, the relationship between them, please, please I beg you to contact police," said Keeney.

I can not beleive the mother stated that she wishes that her daughter would just pass only because she will stay disfigured. What mother would say that! I would be praying for a miracle and hoping that my daughter would survive this!:disa:

I'd pray for a miracle as well, but a painless one. Burns are horrible to experience, and very difficult to treat. It can take years just to repair small areas of burned skin using grafts, etc., which they will probably take from her lower body. If she had major tissue damage to her face, that also may interfere with her airway among other things, likely burns to her lungs, larynx, eyes, etc., along with a likely missing nose, cheeks, etc. - many complications. I don't think it's as much about the disfiguring as it is about the long, long road of extreme pain it will take to recover AND the possiblity of BAD infections that burned skin is prone to acquire. Those can be damn near impossible to treat, as burned skin doesn't have good blood flow to bring the antibiotics to the place it needs to be. Couple that with other opportunistic things, like different fungi, etc., and you're in for a lot of problems. The mother probably has a lot more information, and the media clip probably quoted the "disfigured" part as the most interesting. But who knows? The cosmetics is something that nobody shoudl be worried about right now, but I understand if that's the mother's first reaction, as it's the most visibly obvious at this time. I feel really bad for the patient and her family.

I totally agree with Houdini, I have a friend that was in a house fire and almost lost her life when we were 9 and it's taken so many surgeries and so much pain to get to where she is today. There was times where she wished she just died in the fire, but now she is so glad God didn't take her. I hope this women's mom is there to support her.
God damn, I would much rather die...or find a religion, because that would somehow justify living a horrible life in "god's plan"
