View Full Version : I am afraid I just burn my Duron700

Today I finally got my Chrome Orb, so I took the time to uninstall the OEM version CPU fan (about 15mins), and clip (1 sec)... Yeah... Sure that's a huge improvement from what I heard about GoldenOrb. Run at 800Mhz, no prob... Then 900Mhz, no go... So I stayed back at 850Mhz... Boot up but stuck at the Windows logo. Pissed. Tune it back to 800. Boot up fine, so I try to tune the FSB to 103... Didn't get the computer turn on... And it is still sleeping until now... Do I do anything wrong?! Or I am just the unlucky one? ;_;
I am hoping I haven't burned my chip yet. I am using Asus A7V with dip-switch. The green LED on the motherboard lights up, so I am sure the power is good. Anyone have this problem before?

Clear the Cmos.

I hope you know that CHROME does nothing to get rid of heat. It does the exact opposite, it retains it. I hope u mean your ORB is polished and not chrome.

Chosenfool: Holding INS does work I believe (Or whatever key I was pressing on). Finally got it booted, now I am not sure if I will OC this puppy now. Kinda got discouraged...

nhbilly: Are you serious about it? Where did you hear it?

My case is that my computer case is so cute (actually in fact so small the power is right on top of the CPU fan). With the original SUCKY CPU fan, it was 51C@700~55C@850 (looks scary isn't it?). With chromeOrb (w/o OCing) it runs around 44C@700. Quite significant I think.
so I just order an Enlight 7237 (why not Tornado? Too expensive), and guessing it will arrive next week and replace my cute little G4 feel case.

Hunge,
What voltage are you using? I have the same board, and a Duron 650. I tried to get to 800, but I got a BSoD when the machine got into windows. Think that's related to voltage?

My friend has a duron 600 that runs at 997Mhz (107x9.5) on an A7V. He's using a voltage of 1.85 and a FOP38 cooler.

I would be glad to. Unfortunately, I don't have a dig cam so I can't take pics of my rig.

BTW, It's 105x9.5 that equals 997.5mhz.

BTW hunge, get a real HS/F. 44c at 700 is absolutely nothing when you're overclocking. With my FOP38, my 997 runs at 45c under FULL LOAD (CPU cycles split three ways between prime95, RC5, and SETI).

I recommend the Alpha PAL6035 w/Delta 38cfm fan or mine, the GlobalWin FOP38. Sure they're expensive or loud as hell, but they're made for overclocking and you do get results.

Here's some more info...

Chrome/silver/polished orbs are the same thing...no one would be dumb enough to actually make a HS out of chrome....it would defeat the purpose.

Btw, I'm using an orb on a duron 600@1000mhz 1.80v/3.4V at 50C on full load with seti and rc5. Absolutly stable.
