This is a pretty spectacular deal for the Special Edition Inspiron 2650. The 2650 is their more entry level notebook PC, but look at all the features they packed into this thing. <ul>
<li>Mobile Pentium®4 processor 1.6 GHz-M
<li>14.1 XGA Screen
<li>24X CD-RW with Roxio`s Easy CD Creator®
<li>256MB 200MHZ RAM (2 DIMMS)
<li>16MB DDR 4X AGP NVIDIA GeForce2 Go™ Video Chip
<li>20GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
<li>Floppy Drive
<li>Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
<li>Integrated Network Card
<li>Internal 56k Modem</ul>
I`ve seen comparable system costing over 50% more! It`s pretty easy to configure since the Special Editions come with a lot of things that can`t be changed.**
The $999 price is thanks to a $250 rebate (Expires 8/31/02) and a $250 instant
discount (expires 8/23/02)<ul>
<li>First, go to <a href="http://service.bfast.com/bfast/click?bfmid=37628499&siteid=38421795&bfpage=odo8" target="_blank"><b>DELLSB</b></a>
<li>Somewhere in the middle, it should say, <b>"Save $250 Instantly! Affordable Notebooks!"</b> Click on that.
<li>Choose the Inspiron 2650 SE and <b>Customize It</b>
<li>Just choose the cheapest options for everything. When I went through it, everything was already done and I didn`t have to change a thing.
<li>Add it to your cart and check out.
<li>Choose ground shipping, it should be free.
<li>Send in the $250 <a href="http://www.dell.com/downloads/us/bsd/bsd_rebate_inspironbundle_020801.pdf" target="_blank"><b>REBATE</b></a></ul>
Now, you will probably have to pay for sales tax unless you live in a very lucky state. This is easily one of the best deals for this laptop we have ever had.<ul>
<li><font color="#CE0E0E"><b>Update:</b></font> We`ve been getting some emails
from people who called Dell, some saying that the rebates are good, others
saying the rebates are not. The reason for this apparent controversy is
the small print at the bottom of the rebate stating <i>"Can NOT be combined
with any other promotion on the BSD website going on between x date and y
date."</i> The issue is there have ALWAYS been promotions, whether the
promotions were $ off, or free shipping (yes, the free shipping they
practically always have is listed as a promotion). In the past, these
rebates were always honored with these, which makes complete sense. Why
would a $300 rebate be voided by free shipping? Why would it be voided
by a $ off discount that you can`t remove? The SE bundle rebates could
NOT, however, be combined with other Inspiron mail in rebates(which also makes
sense). Anyhow, we`ve contacted our Dell liaison and he will get back to
us with a definitive answer from someone with the authority to say.</li>

Valid!* We spoke with Philip (x57674), who checked with his manager, Heather
Jones, who according to Philip, has the authority to definitively say whether
the rebate is valid or not says as long as the system base code numbers match
up, AND THEY DO, the rebate is valid.* w00t!</li>

8/21/02.</li>
