It used to be that this flagship desktop from Dell could be configured to have the slowest stuff in order to drive down the price. Now, some of the lowest options are some pretty cutting edge stuff. Some sort of glitch got me an additional 10% off! You can get the cheapest components and have a blazing fast system. Here are some vital stats:

Pentium 4 2.4GHz CPU

256MB PC800 RDRAM

80GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive

Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition

64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ MX Graphics Card (Ti4200 only $80 more)

16x Max Variable DVD-Rom Drive

As you can see, you`re getting a lot of computer for the money. This is great for your non-technical friends because it comes with one year of tech support. Here`s how to get in on it.

Go to DELLHOME

Click on Choose Dimension 8200

Click on Customize

Now, choose the following:

Pentium® 4 processor 2.4GHz w/ 533MHz system bus & 512K L2 Cache

Microsoft® Works Suite 2002 w/Money Standard

Basic Audio (Integrated Sound)

1 Year Limited Warranty plus 1 Year At-Home Service

And click on Continue

On the next screen, go and choose the cheapest options. Most notably, the free upgrades.

FREE Upgrade! 256MB PC800 RDRAM

FREE Upgrade! 80GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive

1 Year Limited Warranty plus 1 Year At-Home Service

No Monitor

New 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4™ MX Graphics Card with TV-Out

note: The upgrade to the Ti4200 is only $80 more, so you might want to consider that.

FREE Upgrade! 16x Max Variable DVD-Rom Drive

Select Monsoon Speakers Below

Note: Don`t choose anything below

Click on Continue

At this point, an error message will come up. Ignore it and click OK

Go down the list and make sure you UNCHECK everything

Click Add to Cart

At checkout, here`s where there`s a nice surprise. The price I got was $759.00 after the $50 discount and then a 10% discount that shouldn`t apply, but still does. This gets the price to $759.00 - $75.90 = $683.10!! I suppose this makes up for the lack of free shipping which will cost you $99. So basically, your bottom line is: $759.00 - $75.90 price mistake + $99 Shipping + $8.84 tax (???) = $790.94 shipped to you! I`m not sure where the sales tax came from, so you can probably call up customer service after you place your order and ask them to drop it for you.

UPDATE: Looks like they fixed the glitch. Hope you got in on it.
