Ok this is the deal....Ive got a digital camera that Ive got hooked up to a serial port (the smaller ones, 9 pins?) Anyway. one day the connection worked and the next day it didn't. Nothing was downloaded, and everything else seems to work. It's been driving me crazy...any advise?
PS By not work, I mean that everytime I attempt to export the files from my camera unto my harddrive I am getting an error message saying that I need to check my connection, etc.
Thanks everybody

OK, are you sure you plugged it into the same serial port as before? Try plugging it into the other serial port and see if it works. If not, go into your BIOS and make sure both serial ports are enabled and try again. If this still doesn't work, try seeing if you have yellow question marks or red x's on anytthing in the device manager (windows+break). That's all I can think of for right now.

I would suggest getting one of these if you have compactflash memory card. It works flawlessly and it saves on batteries. http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10248268&loc=101

Do you have anything else you can connect to that port? If so give it a shot and see what happens. If it works then you know that it is some sort of problem with the the camera or software. You might also try just re-installing the camera software if you get really desperate.

If thats the case I would bet that uninstall - reinstall will fix the problem.

It plugs in through the USB port and it works like another drive, usually f: or g:

Badfish....my one worry w/ uninstall - re-install is that I'll loose the pics that are saved on the program. Ive gots tons and there is nothibg more annoying than having to resave them all to another file :(....
anyway, thanks for all your help :)

That is a problem, do you think it would work if you just made a backup copy of that entire directory in a different place until everything was working again? How are the pictures stored in there? Are they just gif's or jpg's?

They are all jpg.'s....how do I make a copy of an entire directory?

To make a copy of a dir:
WINDOWS:
Navigate to the directory that the dir you want to copy is in, for example if the directory was C:\Program Files\Camera\ you would go to C:\Program Files\ then right click on the directory and click on copy. go to the C Drive and right click in a blank space and hit paste.
DOS (easier):
Open the command prompt, then type "COPY Name of dir Name of dir2" for example if the dir was C:\Program Files\Camera, you would type "COPY C:\PROGRA~1\CAMERA C:\PROGRA~1\CAMERA2"

If I were you I would just make a new folder on the desktop and drag all of the jpg files into that folder.
