Is it a good enough movie to see for the first time? I've never seen it before but was thinking about it. I was just afraid that it would be a waste of my money since it is an older movie.

I would have to say that "The Shining" is by far the scariest movie I've ever seen in my life... and I've watched it like 8 times... and still gives me creeps EVERY SINGLE TIME!
The Exorcist is pretty good too... Must have been fun making the movie with all that slime flying around..hehehe

same here, I haven't seen the exorcist before but i imagine the shining is more scary. To me something that can happen is way more scary than ghosts and supernatural stuff.

so whats the basics of the Shining?
I've never seen the Exor. or the Shining... scarry movies just aren't that scarry to me. I guess I'm desinsitized(sp?) to it for some reason.

I think that those two movies are the scariest!! I think the movies now tend to focus on bouncy boobs, cool hairstyles and so forth.... :heh: One other movie I remember as a kid was " Evil Dead"... Now The Shining.... Its basically a demonic ghost story... You just gotta check it out

i've never seen this movie, and neither has my friend, and I'm thinking of asking her to it...would that be a mistake? I have a certain interest in her...as more than a friend, and I don't want to turn out looking like a pussy crying with my head in her chest if I invite her, but...wait a minute...that's not a bad idea :) Just kidding. I just want to know if it is too distrubing to be a date kind of movie or what. Thanks to anyone who wants to help me out.

hmm...i really don't think exorcist would be a good "first date" type of movie...
all work and no play makes fuzz a dull boy...

The 70's were a great time for horror flicks. Manson, Son of Sam, the Boston strangler were all still pretty fresh in the social psyche, and horror films attracted the most talented directors. There is much less gore and more freakish, suspenseful, just plain scary ideas going on. The Shining and the Exorcist were both great (The Shining being my favorite), and Rosemary's Baby was also scary as Hell. Anton
LaVey, leader of the Church of Satan (their in the yellow pages!), consulted on the film.

I saw the Exorcist this weekend. I kid you not, it was the first horror film I'd ever seen. Hol-ee SHIT was that scary! I spent a good amount of time with my face buried in my girlfriend's generous bosom...btw, because I was scared.
Yup, NOT a first-date movie, Pro. Frankly, I have no idea why someone would go to a movie on the first date, anyway.
"Hey, do you want to sit next to each other and not say a goddamn thing to each other for two and a half hours? That'd be fun, right?"

If I was going out on a date,, with some new guy that I met, I personally wouldn't mind this movie... BUT (I love horror flicks)... BUT, maybe you should start out with something more milder...

Well..in my opinion it would probably make for a pretty memorable date... hehehe
especially if after the movie, you start oozing "exorcist-like goop" from your mouth.. (oatmeal would probably work.. add some raisins too... )
