A coppermine Pentium III is different than a Katmai Pentium III. A coppermine Pentium III uses a smaller fab size, produces less heat and uses less voltage than a Katmai Pentium III. Tyan calls a Katmai Pentium III a Pentium III on this page: http://www.tyan.com//support/html/pentiumii_iii_ppga.html

http://www.tyan.com/products/html/tiger133_p.html Tyan Tiger 1834 spec page for all you lurkers out there. http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/image/ez_icons/emoticons/wink.gif

The bottom line Tom Jones is that your motherboard can take any Pentium III out there right now. So go ahead and order that Pentium III 933 from outpost.com.

By the way Intel is cutting prices on their processors at the end of October:

Looks like you could save over $200 just by waiting a few weeks. http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/image/ez_icons/emoticons/roll.gif

WOW...I didn't know they're coming out with a Pentium 4...Is it suppose to come out in October?!!!.....I guess I'll wait for the price to drop....Also, like you said, my motherboard can support any processor out there right now, but can it support the pentium 4 that you mentioned...i might just wait and get the pentium 4

No your motherboard won't accept a Pentium 4 TomJones. The Pentium 4 uses a bigger socket form factor for starters. Another thing is the Pentium 4 will be overpriced and won't be able to outperform processors of the same speed. Hence that's why Intel is launching it at those high speeds. In addition 6 months down the road Intel is going to come out with a revision of the Pentium 4. The bottom line is a Pentium 4 won't be a good buy and its best to stay with Pentium III. That's what I and others plan to do.

Edit: Pentium 4 has been delayed to November 20 at the earliest.
