This is only a deal if you are going to get rid of the domain after one year. If you plan on keeping that name for 2 years, your cost would be $1+$35=$36. If you were to go to a registrar like gandi.net (The one that I have used) 2 years on a domain comes out to 12 Euros *2 (They are in france), which is about $22 USD. The Licensing for your domain is a whole lot free-er too.

But do u have to call an oversea # inorder to get some tech help?? $1 is not bad cuz before the year is up you can always transfer to a different(cheaper) company...

This is not a bad deal, just make sure to transfer the domain to a cheaper service. I use dotster.com, its only $15 for one year. There may be cheaper ones out there, if you know of one post it here.

By the way does anybody have any good names for trade?

What support do you need with domains? Gandi has support via email, but no phone support. Also, some registrars have fees for transferring the domain.
I just checked with register.com, the registrar who is doing the staples deal, and there is a $35 fee to transfer. so, if you were to get it for a year then transfer to a $15/year registrar, it would be 1+35+15, or $51 for 2 years. Still a deal?

You serious about that? $35 to transfer out of register.com?? That's bull...do they do that to regular orders or just the staples.register deal??
****JUST CALLED REGISTER.COM*****
They said they DON'T have a transfer fee of $35 for transfers out of register.com. This includes the staple.register deal. They said your new registra might charge you for a fee.... yeah ok~~

DOH! They charge $35 to transfer TO them, which would make sense, not from them. They only have one page with info on transfers, and it didn't specifically say which way the transfer was going, until you really read the form you were looking at.

Most other registrars charge to transfer domain names to them. So, dotster.com might only charge $15/year to host a name, but they could charge another $15 to move your domain from Register.com to Dotster.com

How is Dotster anyway? anyone using them yet?? I was going to transfer them out to registerclub..but they only accept transfers from networksolutions.. S U X ....oh wellz...let me know how dotster is. BTW anyone using nomonthlyfees too?? how is that??

Joker.com is my favorite registrar. They charge 12 euros if you transfer a domain, and 12 euros per year to keep it in their system. If you register over 100 domains, they'll cut you an even better deal.
At today's exchange rate, 12 euros equals about $10.55 US.
The only drawback is that these folks are in Germany, and English is clearly their second language. But they've responded to emails within a day whenever I had questions.

Both my site is hosted on NoMonthlyFees.com It's a pretty good deal. I would recommend it. Been using it for almost a year now.
