Did you get alxnguyen's phone number before making the transaction? Every trade/sale/purchase I've done via non-eBay measures, I've gotten the phone number and made a phone call. At least this way you know if the person is serious enough about the deal and should you get screwed, you can reverse lookup the phone number and report it to the police quite easily.

The cellular phone number alxnguyen left was called Friday night and this is what happened:

"I just called the cell number. I believe I got alex. However he says he is Brian, Alex's brother. He said Alex is out with his girlfriend. He will give him the message to call me. I asked for Alex's home number and he gave me 206/***-**** (a non working number). I called him back and told him and he was shocked. He said he would definately give Alex the message and he would have him email me or call me.

He was shocked when I called him and said how did you get my number? I told him I just got it.

I kept calling him Alex. (Alex called me once I sent the paypal, voice is similiar, but brothers can sound alike). He said he was not alex. Finally after I told him that I had paypal'd Alex money and not received palm Vx. He nervously said he was Brian, the brother. He seems nervous now. I never accused him of anything except for not send out palm yet."

On Saturday the number was called again:

"I know he is pretending to be his brother. I called him again just now. He said he again was Brian. He said he left the message with Alex and he has not seen Alex at the computer lately (therefore not getting my emails?). I told him that I needed to speak to him or have him respond to my email before I have to go to other options. I told him I am giving him the benefit of doubt and he should respond very soon to me. I told him to tell him to either send out the Palm or Pay Pal me back. I told him I would email him also with the message. He is worried enough that he may do so now."

10/14 1:50 PM Alex Nguyen is logged into fatwallets bbs

Points to be raised: Why didn't Alex Nguyen's "brother" on Friday or Saturday mention this accident? Why didn't Alex Nguyen's "brother" say anything about this accident to Stoned Wheat via Instant messenger on Sunday? How could Alex Nguyen email tee2 on Sunday night then? What about being logged into got|apex's bbs on Monday night?

10/19 tee2 gives Alex Nguyen one more reprieve to respond or pay by 10:00 a.m. that morning.

Alex Nguyen makes a miraculous recovery from the car accident to email the following at 6:22 a.m. to tee2: "You'll have your money by this Sunday. Please no more big deals on the forums."

Later that day Alex Nguyen emails Stoned Wheat: "I'll return your money within one week from now. Please wait for the refund." Alex Nguyen also wants Stoned Wheat to write on forums that everything is resolved.

dragoon42 also gets email from Alex Nguyen saying dragoon42's money will be returned one week from now via paypal.

10/21 Alex Nguyen posts a cheerful thread obviously unburdened by the fact that none of the gentkemen he has made deals with have received the items they purchased from him. Did I miss something? We always make fun of anandtech. On the other hand, I totally disagree with the poster: by defrauding the countless (basically because I don't want to count) people, he opens himself to whatever legal actions taken against him. Taking pictures of one's house, so long as your aren't a collection agency (and last I checked, neither Anandtech nor GotApex were such an entity) is entirely legal. Don't want your house photographed? Don't rip people off. It's generally very simple. That said, if anyone does try to play "Mr. Bounty Hunter", they're even dumber than Alex Nguyen.

No, no, it really wasn't a question of censorship. It's more question of me just not being informed. I've never seen this "policy" mentioned before, and it was just a surprise to see it so harshly stated for the first time.

Lets clear something up right now. A few people seem to be under the misimpression Alex Nguyen is 18 years old. He's 24 years old.

Its also likely Alex Nguyen has ripped people off before. Several people have posted at anands remembering this jerk doing stuff like this before. So a young, naive person he certainly is not. It would great to to make sure he never does this again.

I cannot believe the cops or other federal authorities (since it involves interstate commerce) have not been involved, basically on his say so. I recieved this email from Alex's "parents" and "brother" on 12/22, even though I doubt it's really from them. My hunch is that Alex is scared now because of the letter that he got from the attorney general's office from alabama. Of course, his parents didn't send the money yet.

Here's another letter I recieved from them on the 29th:

account was locked, so I couldn't make the reverse
payment until his account is unlocked. I tried to
contact the Buyer Protection deparment to request them
to make the reverse payment (and the reverse payment
only, without lifting the restriction), but the only
way to contact them is via email. They are a little
bit slow with the holidays and all. Yesterday, they
have replied to Alex's email, and they'll probably
make the reverse payment soon. Please see the
attached email for details.

Paypal will make the reverse payment in the same
amount that you sent in the first place, but after
Alex's account is unlocked, I will send the 5% that I
said in earlier email. My parents and I really
appreciate your patience. We thought we could send
you the money before Christmas.

If this Alex was a resident of WA state during any of these dealings, or was personally located in WA state during any of these transactions, I believe that Christine Gregoire, WA State Attorney General, should be notified.

Be truthful, completely candid, and feel free to include links, etc., to ensure that all of the information can be gathered and a file created for this guy. WA state has some of the most stringent rules regarding Internet fraud.

I am simply a resident of WA state, and hate people like this. I am not affiliated any way with law enforcement, etc. I would love to simply see this guy get nailed.

Get your complaint in about him...they work on a "squeaky wheel gets the grease" style enforcement. The more complaints about him, the more pressure put on to at least contact him.
