Are you referring to the icon on the system tray, or an actual icon on the desktop?
if it's an item on the desktop, right click it and check the properties, then attributes.
What exactly does your computer say when you try to delete it?
Also, try deleting it from the MS DOS mode. I've pulled that sneaky trick before. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

it just won't let me delete it... when you right click it and it doesn't give you the option to delete it. and when you drag it over the recycle bin, it just has a big fat slash through the icon so that you can't drop it in there... and you can't go into the c:\windows\desktop directory to delete it cause it's not there. so i have no idea how to get rid of it. thanks for any help you can give :-)

Use Tweak UI. Pop in your Win98 CD and navigate to (assuming E is the drive letter for your cd-rom) E:\Tools\reskit\powertoy and then right click on tweakui.inf and click the install option. Follow all the directions. After you have done this (i dont know if you need to reboot or not) go into your control Panel and open up the Tweak UI option. Go to the "Desktop" tab in the dialog that opens up, and uncheck MSN. Simple as that. M$ just wants to consistently remind you that they want to be your ISP.
