First off, for the record, I seldom if ever play RPG's. I went to Best Buy a couple days ago with money to burn. No good DC games out-Couldn't find a decent enough looking PC game I don't have, so I said screw it, let's see what the hype is all about. Well friends, this game kicks ass! Hands down fun as nuts. Diablo 2 rocks-----

I have a few problems with the game, I'll just go into the first one. . . . Exactly how do I determine how powerful a weapon is? It says Strength " 10 to 12" or "6 to 23." I have no idea what that means. Nor can I find anything in the book that mentions that in any detail. Can someone transalate that or elaborate on it a bit. I swear I've had weapons with a lesser number appearing to do more damage! I appreciate the help friends. I feel like i should know this, but here I am level 17 with a barbarian, still unsure of the right weapons. LOL

You can calculate the average damage...

10 to 12 = 10+12/2 = 11 average damage

6 to 23 = 6+23/2 = 14.5 average damage

if you have something that does er... 10 to 20 plus 5 points of extra damage, then: 10+20/2 + 5 = 20 average damage.

Of course, this is all stats.

Diablo (as with most RPGS) sort of rely on dice rolls or on the same principle. So basically think of a weapon with a damage of 4-15 as on that on it's WORST hit deals 4 while on a GOOD hit deals 15.

Some modifiers will upgrade like +3 to MINIMUM damage or to MAXIMUM damage.

you're also forgetting to answer his question about how sometimes weaker weapons seem to hit harder, and it is possible. If you're playing as a barbarian with 6 points in Mace mastery and you're attacking a zombie, indeed, using a mace with 3-7 damage (150% damage to undead) will actually cause 7.56-17.64 damage, which obviously beats the hell out of any sword causing 5-10 damage. So it really depends if you have any masteries or if you're attacking an undead creature or any other sort of damage modifier...
