View Full Version : Duron to 850?
Ok, couple questions, but first let's get this out of the way. I'm not the best overclocker. I get the concept, but the practice always makes me feel like a dunce.
First off, I have an ASUS A7V. 128MB PC133 RAM. There's a 650 Duron running at 700. Oooo, a whole 50 mhz. Here's the question: What settings should I use to get it closer to 850? I know I need a better cooling setup, but that's not really a big deal. Voltage is the one that always make me crazy. I'm never sure what to set it to.
Thanks in advance,
Blu
First get better cooling for your duron like an alpha cooler. Then bump up the voltage in bios to 1.80V.
We discussed something similiar a few days ago:

from my understanding amd doesn't want u to use the heatsink paste. i'm just trying to find out as much info as possible about overclocking the durons because i'm about to start in a little bit.
Not use thermal paste/grease? http://www.geocities.com/sbp7777/shocked.gif What are you supposed to use then? Got any links to this info broman78?

ONE MORE THING I'd like to run by you before I sign off for the night... I went to an AMD "get together" where they reviewed future product and told us something that FLOORED me. They stated that AMD absolutely DOES NOT recommend thermal grease and would rather one uses phase change thermal compound. Apparently the grease doesn't hold up under the heat and heatsink tension and will dissipate easily. SUCK! So much for telling people that they can run down to Radio Shack to get a tube of thermal grease! I've been telling people they can do this FOR YEARS! Bummer.
