Did anyone out there actually got a PS2 from the stores today? My local k-mart only had 12 systems for sale...and there were like 50 people waiting for it. I heard the manager saying that sony will start to ship out more PSX2 like starting next week... anyone know wat's the deal with that??

i heard some kmarts wrote down your name/phone # in order (if they couldn't get you one), and as they come in, instead of putting it up for sale they'll call you up.

I really doubt they're going to call... But does anyone know if it's true that sony is delivering more units soon?

I overheard someone today saying that they went to Kmart to get one, and the manager said they would have regular weekly shipments coming starting in Nov. Can't confirm or deny, just wanted to plant a little seed of false hope on someones soul... whoops, did I say that outloud?

First i'd like to make a shoutout to all you Frisco people! Wasssuuuuuppppppp
I was going to wait with my friends, but i had to work. I could have bought one when i waltzed into the Wherehouse at Sutter and Van Ness (which only had two!!) but i don't have 400 lying around.
Second, wasssupppp rogeryang!!!!!
Third, what do you guys think about people jumping on the capitolistic opportunity of selling PS2's on ebay and such? Is it against the common socialism, or are people just jealous that others thought of the idea before them?

I got mine in April from HK :)

Guess what? goto Ebay and see how much these things are selling for. People are actually willing to pay $2000, yes, 2K for this machine. And it's not even a bundle! Just the regular package, 1 controller, 1 deck, and all cables for 2K and you would have to pay $25 + for shipping too! People are getting absolutely crazy. Let me calculate this, PSX 2 = dreamcast; $150.00 + DVD player, $200.00 (Pioneer, which can play CDR's, VCD's, and DVD) = $350.00. Now, which seems to be a better deal?

Also, someone posted before about going to HK and getting a PSX 2, let me tell you something. The PSX 2 is sold out in the Asia market too! This is Sony's bait trick. That way there is more demand meaning more profits for them. Just like those damn Sony robo dog's. Originally priced at around $100 - $200, well...they are going for at least $500.00 US now.

after finished reading about the $2000 for a psx2 on ebay I went to ebay to see for myself..and it's true it's true...people are paying $$ for it...but wat i also noticed was that about 3/4 of the psx2 on ebay was posted after the release..and i'm sure they do have they psx2 and want to make some quick $$ (well duh~) but since there's soooo many that's on ebay now wouldn't that drive the price down? if this guy wants $1000 for his psx2 why not go to the next guy who also have a psx2?? but there's still people bidding $1000+ for it....why??? Are they just too afraid that sony won't make anymore psx2 before x-mas?? Or they just too dumb?? lol

Sony will be shipping 100,000 units a week from now until christmas (This initial shipment was 500,000 units, so your odds of getting one next week are technically one fifth what they were this week). Sony's explaination of a parts shortage for the rarity of the PS2 is most likely true, since it still hasn't been launched in Europe. Sony doesn't actully make extra profit from the unit being hard to come by, (sort of like Beanie Babies) individual retailers and resellers that are responsible for mark-up are the ones getting the bulk of those profits. This is further evidenced by the fact that while the PS2 sets a record for number of games available at launch (24), only one is a Sony title.
As for you Dreamcast owners, buck up, Sega has prepared to take full advantage of Sony's shortfall - there will be a barrage of big new games and new hardware available for the DC in the coming weeks.

If anybody thinks they're going to get 2 large for a ps2 console from a 15 year old fleabayer with a -2 feedback, I've got some CPU thermal compound for sale that will make your system wicked fast...

big mi
10-27-2000, 07:33 AM
yes 10,000 units per week is only about 1/5 of wat we got on the 26th...but it's on a per week basis....in another words if sony starts to ship out again next week til x-mas there should be 80,000 avavible before x-mas...that should drive down the crazy prices($1,000!!??) of these psx2 down alittle i think...or do u people think psx2 price will continue to rock until x-mas??

Personally, I don't see the need to buy one right now.. There aren't any games that I would consider worthwhile to buy the system right now anyways.. the only things I am waiting for are Metal gear and the new Final fantasy games.. I already have a playstation.. and I don't even play that anymore. Another thing is everyone who bought one now is going to have to deal with all of the bugs sent out in the first shipment. Kind of like the original playstation. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knockin sony, cuz I actually want to buy one.. but not at 300 bux..I'll wait about 6 - 8 months (when metal gear comes out) and pay 150. I already have a DVD player, so what's the point.

By rock, do you mean steady or increase? All I can say is, the PSX 2 will continue to increase in price because if the resellers have it in their stores/warehouses, they will tell everyone they are in shortage and make the prices go skyrocket making demand higher than supply. In Asia, PSX 2 has been out for half-year I think, and it is still in shortage! You are looking at high prices until the x-box comes out and the new Nintendo system comes out. With no competition, and *alot* of wealthy crazy people, the price of a PSX will hardly come down. Also, it is Christmas season, what a better time to con all of your money.

Palm's are supposed to be in a shortage, and we will see a shortage of it until next year. However, look at all the palms for sale now. Do you see a trend? Once 3com announced of a shortage due to parts, companies started to purchase millions of palms, and say they are out of stock until 3com ships them a new batch. Now look, its almost Christmas and look at all these brand new palms, that costs higher than normal because of a shortage...which really isn't too bad, its just that businesses tend to lock these up in their warehouses and then sells them again when they see demand has skyrocketed and price has increased.

Remind you of OD if the price is misprinted?

Expect the high ebay prices to take a dive tomorrow since there are a ton of systems up over the next two days. All the really crazy buyers are getting their systems for $700-850 today. It'll be at $600 soon, but that's still a nice profit if you can wait 5 months to get a replacement. I'm selling mine, but it'll be tough to go without playing SSX now.

Speaking of the Microsoft X-Box and Nintendo GameCube (both due out fall 2001); you may want to consider skipping the PS2 altogether and waiting for one of these systems. Both are in a completely different class from the PS2, and people overpaying for the Sony now will be sorely disappointed when they get a preview of these systems.

Fall 2001? Come one. That's a year from now. The point of buying a system is not to make sure you get the best system that's going to available in the next year or two, but to buy something that you can play with now, have fun with now. Not a year from now.

I would have to agree with namlook on that. But I do think paying $800 for a $300 system is a little(a lot) too much...for $800 you can get a decent computer system....

Well, when I first bought my playstation, it was a year after launch. Remember, the SCPH-100x, SCPH-500X, and etc... Well, I had 1 SCPH-500X, then later bought a SCPH-750X. And the difference differs greatly. The 500X had tons of bugs, Im glad Im not one of the people who bought the 100X which had more bugs. So far, PSX 2 does not have many games out, which makes it a great buy. Despite the bugs, if any, games is what makes the system great, the specs itself does not make the system great alone.

A comparison would be the N64 and PSX. The N64 has far greater capabilities than the PSX, but the PSX sold far more units than the N64. The reason, because of the games. When the N64 first debutted, there weren't that many games out, which made the PSX a much better buy than the N64. The N64 had great hardware capabilities than the PSX, but the PSX prevailed.

Now, lets take a look at the Dremcast and PSX 2. PSX 2 is a much better system than the Dreamcast, but the Dreamcast has more games and games that are fun. And Accessory prices are going down, but the PSX 2 accessories, some are not even out yet, and even if they were they are expensive.

Now there's a guy that knows his games..lol...I agree that DC have tons of good games out... but I think x-box will blow all of them away when it comes out next year. Video games are moving too fast these days....oh yes, I remember the good old nintendo first came out....lol..
BTW..some guy just brought a PSX2 on ebay for $1850?? I didn't know trump likes video games too...

Those $1000+ ebay sales are all BS. Take a look at these high sales and you'll notice that they're always to some guy with zero or negative feedback. They win the auction, then they never send the money. Ebay's supposed to be doing something to curb all the fake or insincere bids being placed, but I don't know what it is. Keep checking ebay, at the rate these things are selling, they'll be sub $400 soon. There are litterally several PS2s selling EVERY MINUTE. Searching for "Playstation 2" brings up over 15000 listings. Everybody saw those auctions going for $800 the first day, and now they think they'll cash out, but the market is flooding. I put mine up for $600 with a game and free shipping; now I doubt if it will even sell, much less bring in $750+ like I originally thought. I think I'll wait until December 1st to relist when the Xmas crunch is on. My advise to anyone who's thinking about selling their PS2 is to wait at least two weeks until all the guys who bought systems specifically to sell on ebay are done.

That's fine if you want to spend several hundred dollars a year on new game consoles and hardware. My point is that everyone shelling out big bucks for the PS2 now will wonder why they did it when the X-Box and GameCube are introduced. Did you get to see the article in the latest Time magazine? (From Time, October 30, 2000):
"The early word on the playing experience--outside of Sony's launch party--is not particularly enthusiastic. 'There is nothing on the PS2 that I've seen that gave me that jaw-dropping feeling I got with the Sega Dreamcast last year,' says Dan Clark, 29, CEO of a New Hampshire credit union and an active gamer. Madden NFL 2001 is good, he says, but no better than games currently available on Dreamcast."
"There will no doubt be more griping this week, as gamers weigh the glitz of the PlayStation2 rollout with the reality of the gaming experience. 'The PlayStation2 doesn't live up to Sony's hype,' says (John, the multimillionaire, ponytailed master gamer behind legendary shooters like Doom and Quake) Carmack."
And if you're waiting for Metal Gear, you'll technically only be having fun with the "best system now" for a few months; it won't be out until spring.
I'm not trying to scare you away from the PS2, just be aware that *a better deal* is forthcoming...
