Hi,

I bought an Amptron Vega-V6931 motherboard. Does anyone know if this is any good? I got it to go with my Celeron 533 ppga. If its really no good, is there a better, affordable one that I could get. I'm having problems getting the thing to work. It keeps freezing up when I try to install win98. Could it be an incompatable memory chip? I bought a pc100 128 meg sdram chip. I'm not sure of the manufacturer. Anyone think they can help? I appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks.

Amptron, otherwise known as PCChips, SUCK.

Crap parts, crap quality, return that think ASAP.

If you cheap, there is the SOYO TEK 7VCA Socket FC-PGA Motherboard. Performance will be just fine for that processor, and the board is about 100 bucks. If you go with an 815 chipset, you'll spend about 140. You only really see a performance difference at 133 buss speeds, and with the current drivers, it's not all that much.

chosenfool,
If you haven't returned the MB yet, do it NOW. Just take the hit for the restocking fee. It's worth it.

To paraphrase LPM, Amptron motherboards SUCK!

Thanks for the advice guys. I am in the process of returning the MB. I will be replacing it with an Asustek cubx. From what I hear that is a much better board. Ok, Thanks again.
