I really want to record digitally on my new md recorder. However, I don't own anything that has an optical output. Is there a way to still get digital recordings maybe from a computer or cd player? If not is there a cheap solution?
Thanks

I don't think you can get a digital recording without a digital output. However you can still record in stereo and that will mostly likely be good enough.

The only way to get true digital recording is to indeed use a reading device that uses digial output. That I know of, no computer sound card uses true digital-optical output.
Generally, only high-end CD, DVD, and MD players have optical output.

actually i've seen sound cards with digital output but those run in the range of $100 and are NOT from a known company (like creative and yamaha).
I'm looking for a cheap portable cd player or even a cheap audio system that has a digital output. Cheap as in less than $50...
