Can this thing store stuff in mpg or avi format on your computer? That would be cool...

If no, what can it do that a normal camera can't?

This sounds like a camcorder and not a digital camera

Tape speed : SP: 18.8 mm/s
LP: 12.5 mm/s
Maximum recording time : SP: 80 min.
(using 80 min. cassette) LP: 120 min.

Is this correct??

It is both a digital camera & camcorder. It will record both pictures & video on a Mini DV tape. U can connect it up to your computer to create both videos & digital images.

Cool so you can hook it up....some questions though:

1) Do you need anything extra to hook it up? What is it you need?

2) It can be saved on your computer, what format can it be saved as? Is it your choice?

3) Is the software included to do this?

That's about all I need to know.

Thanks,

Tibor

1) Do you need anything extra to hook it up? What is it you need?

I belive it includes everything to hook it up to your TV or VCR. If u want to connect it to your computer or any other firewire device (IEEE 1394), I believe u need to purchase a firewire (IEEE 1394) card; should easily be able to find a firewire (IEEE 1394)card for way under $100. I think JVC also has an option to use a special serial cable from them to do transfers to PCs, but I wouldn't recomend that since serial is very slow, especially for large videos.

2) It can be saved on your computer, what format can it be saved as? Is it your choice?

Again this is software depenent but most programs saves videos in MPEG format & pictures in JPEG format; but u can always use another graphics program to convert them to other formats.

3) Is the software included to do this?

Since the box is not opened I am not sure.

A good popular software package to connect to your computer is "Studio DV". I comes with a PC DV card & only costs around $99. U can get more info here: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/productpage.asp?templ=8&Product_ID=1
