ARGH!! I spilled about 2 oz. of water into my laptop last night!! I tried drying it up and turning it over and blah blah to get water out . . . it was coming out the floppy drive!!! Then being the optimistic mental midget I can be at times I tried turning it on to see if maybe, just maybe it was OK. Alas . . . nope. Of course by trying to turn it on I may have permanently F*CKED my computer . . . if the water hadn't already done it. When I tried turning it on I got all these pretty colors on my screen - probably not a good sign. Of course my warranty expired a month ago, so I'm probably going to have to pay an arm and a leg to get the sucker fixed.

ARGH ARGH ARGH and one last final ARGH!

if it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine tried to help me by cleaning my laptop with ... a MAGNA-DUSTER!

sigh...

Heh - my aunt once called me because a couple keys on her keyboard weren't working. Seems it was dirty, so she popped it into the dishwasher. Amazingly, only two keys were dead....

Dang . . . lucky aunt. I already know that my keyboard is screwed . . . hopefully it's not much more than that!!

Let it dry COMPLETELY - like for several days. Don't turn it on if you even think there might still be water in there.

When you think it's dry, try turning it on & see if you get anything. You might be lucky.

This might work... Get an airtight container that the laptop will fit in and fit in a fair amount of dessicant. Put in the comp, seal the lid, and leave for a few days. This will absolutely suck out all the moisture that could possibly be in there. If the original water wasn't too heavily ionized, you may have luck with this.

BTW-A dessicant is something like silica gel. It comes in those "Do Not Eat" packages in foods that you want to keep dry. If you know someone that works in a lab, just ask them and they should be able to get some for you.
