Wanna know what really chaps my ass?

I was working, minding my own business, and in the computer lab next door, I hear two chumps arguing over whether to call carbonated sugar water soda or pop. This debate went on for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, a good 10-15 people left one lab and went to the other to get some quiet. I think people in general get wholely rediculous when it comes to a subculture difference. Soda or Pop? Who cares. Just drink the damn thing and shut up.

Is pop an east coast term? I never really heard it called pop until college.

In St. Louis, we refer to it as soda.

However, you go anywhere in the sticks of Missouri, or to the western parts of the Midwest (like KC or Omaha) and it magically becomes pop.

I've even heard of people refer to all forms of Soda/Pop as "coke."

yes, even the noncola drinks like sprite, they refer to as coke. (as redneck as it sounds, it's pretty common)

Go to Georgia and order a coke then they ask what type ie sprite or such...When I was in TX it was soda...when I moved to WA it was Pop now I'm so damn confused I prefer to think of it as crack ;)

soda and coke are more western.
pop is eastern and pisses me off for some reason. It reminds me of all those old 50s movies.

Yeah, I agree. There's just something inherently wrong with putting your mouth on something called "pop."

gotta love Yellow # 5, baby! Of course...I hate the flavor of Dew, so I still don't drink it. I'm mainly a Ginger Ale and Barq's fan.

I started drinking Dew on long car trops for the extra caffiene (sp?) to help me stay awake... I think I'm addicted now :(

Dr. Pepper is second on my list.

I truth, I need to stop drinking sooo many soft drinks. I currently drink about 6 cans in a 6 - 8hr day at work.

I remember going to the store with my Grandma in Alabama when I was little and I asked where the soda was. They pointed me to the 'Baking soda'. They call it Pop or Coke there too

The term coke, pop, and sludge are all slang:

I have always called it soda, and upon arriving at a Midwestern school, I had never heard differently, I have found that Soda is the component containing carbonation, (it is in a chem book) anywho Pop reminds me of a tall glass bottle, except for beer which is definatley not soda or IBC Root Beer, I have never had a POP!

people should drink WATER instead of fussing over pop or soda. I came from westsiiiiide and we called it pop, now I'm in NY (Ithaca -_-) and people call it soda. It does not matter which is which, since soft drinks are bad for you. BAD I say!!

Drink water instead; it's free, readily avaiable, and if you drink enough of it so that your urine is colorless, you are living healthily and less dehydrated.

I've heard it referred to as "soda", "pop", "soda pop", "soft drink", and "Coke" (when referring to Coca-Cola or Pepsi...never heard anyone call Sprite, 7-up, or Mountain Dew "Coke" before).

I usually say "soft drink" when I'm referring to carbonated beverages in general. If I'm referring to Coca-Cola or Pepsi, I usually say "Coke".

Sometimes if you say "Coke" and they have Pepsi, they'll ask if Pepsi is okay because some people won't drink Pepsi, but they'll drink Coca-Cola. I can taste a difference between the two, but not a big enough difference to like one more than the other.
