Ok, I come from an old skoo way of thinking that you shouldnt mix hard drive brands in the same machine (e.g. have a Western Digital and a Maxtor HDs in the same box) in order to avoid compatibility problems. Now someone give me an update, does this still hold true? Or is technology so wonderful that we can now plug n play to our hearts content?

never heard that rule, but I can tell you that you can mix'n match all you wish.
I heard about that rule a few years ago. Nowdays you can mix and match hard drives all the time with no problem.
"if you have 2 hard drives with different speeds on the same IDE controller, usually the faster one follows the slower one, degrading the system's performance (still holds true today, though)" I don't believe this holds true anymore chosenfool.
