i have everything installed:

av7 mobo
1 gig athlon
fans
sound/video cards
western digital 7200rpm 100UATA

The problem is that after I install windows 2000, the comp. keeps telling me that it cannot detect my hard drive. I went over the same step and I get the same results. Therefore i am completely lost. I tried to install win98 but i get the same error. I know it'll be complicated to determine the problem but if anyone knows how to solve this, please reply.

if it is any help-
I did install the "promise software" for the hard drive

Double check the jumpers on the hard drive, set the drive detection to auto in the bios.

thanks but,..... same problem occurs

hmmm... could the western digital HD is not compatible with the asus av mobo? or do i install the "promise" software outside of the windows 2000 setup???

lost in unkown territory,
k2

I've heard about this type of problem before k2audio. Install your operating system with the Western Digital hard drive on the A7V's regular ata controller. After the os is installed, then install the Promises Ultra ATA100 drivers. After doing that switch the hard drive to the promise controller and boot from there.

i've got the same problem with my system, i'm running the exact same thing

1 amd 1 ghz tbird
win 2k
2 ibm 75gxp 30 gig 7200rpm

i had both hooked up to the promise controller..but i kepy getting a blue screen saying that its a non-bootable device, i switched the harddrives to the regualr ata-66 controller and everythign worked fine... so i dunno what is wrong with the promise controller, and i do have the drivers installed for it..i dont think its the hard drives..but still not really sure what it is k2audio

if anyone can help that would be great

thanks

Check the BIOS settings again. There should be some settings for the ATA100 controler. It should be set to Auto.
And of course recheck your cables after a break away from your system, at least an hour.

system is working through the regular ATA. I'll try the switch over after everything gets installed. I figured this ASUS mobo is top sh*t. It is a good mobo but this, UATA hard drive thing suck. I bought a UATA 100 hard drive, damn it i want to use it for all that its out to be not 33 or 66. And for that ASUS can eat a d*ck.

:puke:CI====8 ASUS inc.

thats just my two cents

ATA100 is overrated. Thats the theoretical burst transfer rate you'll never get. A more consistent transfer rate will be much lower. For example IBM's great 75GXP series of hard drives has a consistent transfer rate of 37MB/s.

I had the same problem I think, it was a while ago when I put my stuff together, but it was just something with the cable for the ata100, so check the cables. That is what I did and it fixed it.

I set up a system with the A7V and I got that same problem when I was booting the computer. However, I set the computer to boot from the windows cd. The windows installer detected the drive and was able to install windows without any trouble. It was odd when the computer booted it could not detect the hard drive. When windows was installed everything worked fine with the ATA100 drivers.

I do agree that ASUS should have a fix for this, maybe they have an update to the bios that solves this, but I have not looked.

things are working fine in the regular ATA. I tried to switch over to the UATA 100 but my windows didn't completely boot. It went to the stop screen. Re-cabled it to the OG ata and everything worked and went through the fix...... will make another attempt after i install all my design softwares.
