Compatibility with Regular X and 360

hey guys, im pretty sure this question was asked before but i cant seem to find the original thread to it. My friend has a regular xbox game and i have the 360 version, can we play together online via xbox live?

Friend has: XBOX with Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and playing online on Xbox Live

I have: Xbox 360 and Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (360 version) and playing xbox live gold.

Can we play each other online via Xbox Live?

I heard Yes, No, and Yes as well as people who have the PC version can play too, so 3 different consoles playing one another (xbox,360,PC).

Anyone have friends that have had the same dilema and gotten past it? Thanks everyone!

no. doesn't work. you could play halo 2 against someone on a regular xbox, but you can't play different versions of the game against each other across the console generation gap.
