temporary internet files in your Documents and Settings folder. It might be somehwere else if you specified it to do so. Search for files with a created or modified date around the time you saw the picture.

Search for it in Google if you know the URL and check the "cached page" and see if it's there.

I've done this once when at work I noticed someone logged on to my computer. So I did a search to view all the files that were created when I wasn't there. *shivers* I scrolled through the files and jpgs and gifs and it was our male secretary checking his normal yahoo email and his special yahoo email account which was like studly4u69 *shivers*.
Everyone who logs on to XP, XP will create a folder on Documents and Settings with your login name and place your My Documents Folder under that and any websurfing files in the Temporary Internet Files. It's amazing the stuff you find.

Personally, I generally look in the "Temporary Internet Files" of IE.
To get there...
Tools, Internet Options, (Temporary Internet Files box) Settings, View Files.
Just sift through those to see if it is still there.

It is very unlikely that I would find anything there. I'd have to look at:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<some id>.default\Cache

Why is it "unlikely"... (unless you are referring to you not using Internet Explorer)
That place is a temporary cache for many of the images and files that you come across as you surf the web with IE. I've found lots of images that I was looking for there (as long as you don't refresh the page and a new image with the same name overwrites it.)
I guess what works for one, doesn't always work for all... but still, it is a "suggestion". YMMV.

...as you surf the web with IE.
Why would I ever want to do that? (shiver)
