Domain Name Question

I have a domain name registered with GoDaddy right now and it's up in September 2006.

I want to register with Yahoo since it's $2.99, but if I do, will I lose the 2 1/2 months I have left with GoDaddy?

Or will it renew once my registration is up?

I don't know about Yahoo, but every other registrar I've worked with will add a year onto the existing registration period. If Yahoo follows that policy (which I'm sure they do) you would pay $2.99 for the next 14.5 months.

If you let the registration expire, you will not be able to transfer it. You'd have to renew with GoDaddy, then transfer it to Yahoo. I've made that mistake before.
