I am looking around for a new car insurance company since I have been with Mercury for a long time and they are raising my rates. I own my truck now (yes!) and I haven't had a ticket it over 10 years. Can you tell me a) who your insurance company is and b) if you would recommend them?

Thanks much.

21st Century. I like them quite a bit. Good rates, great coverage.

I would check with Auto Club now that they are deemphasizing the use of zip codes.

I have Mercury Insurance and like them but I have a low rate b/c I have low mileage.

Why is Mercury raising your rates? Wondering if it's across the board.

We currently have State Farm but are about to switch back to USAA. USAA is great and have fantastic rates. You've been in the military, so you should qualify. Definitely check with them! We're going to get full coverage for 2 1995 Buick cars plus renter's insurance with a good amount of coverage for about $90/month.

I've been with State Farm since I started driving at age 17.

They've always covered me whenever I had a problem and I've never had a reason to drop them (other than "high rates" at time, but looking elsewhere at other companies of "equal standing" the rates were just as high)

Pretty much, I don't fear that SF will drop me at the drop of a hat if something should happen to me, given my record with them. Plus I have them as my Home insurance as well.

I've been around the block and settled with Allstate. It's probably hit or miss though. I happened to get a really great agent.

YMMV, depending on who you ask.

I've had Allstate, Nationwide, Progressive, and Geico. Out of those I liked Progressive and Geico, whom we currently use.

If you're gone 10 years with no tickets, you should be good to go. Shop around a bit and you should find some good rates.

I've heard lots of people complaining about GEICO but I really have liked them. I actually saved close to 50% compared to my previous policy with Selective Insurance in New Jersey (who, in all fairness, was good when I had a not-at-fault accident) and got a lower collision/comprehensive deductibles too. Of course, this is in NJ where GEICO seriously challenged others with their business model.

Most recently, I've had to deal with GEICO regarding an accident that my mom got into (she was rear-ended, and not at fault) and they have been extremely cordial and patient through the process - we're uncertain of the person's insurance status at the time of the accident, so we're going through them and letting them recoup the cost now. They have good rates, and their internet interface is intuitive. I really liked them and unfortunately can no longer use them because I just moved my formal state of residency to MA which is the one state they will not insure.

Here's what the Washington Post had to say about GEICO.

And here's a tidbit from ABC News about GEICO's rating system.
CLICK ME, TOO (http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0306/312225.html)

Notice the 4th to last paragraph in the Post and last sentence in ABC's article. :)

Guess who I'm a supporter of? :)

I use AAA here in Los Angeles. When I first moved out here I signed up with AAA because their reputation was solid and they offered annual dividends back. My second year here in LA my rates didn't go down as much as I had hoped (no accidents) so I switched to Geico who saved me about $150. They were fantastic as well, but when it came time to renew with them I was able to negotiate a better deal with AAA again. I have been with AAA since (3 years AAA, 1 year Geico).

I've had to bring my car in twice because of 2 not-at-fault incidents. Both occured while I was under AAA insurance and the AAA claims group did an amazing job handling all of my paperwork and communication with the other insurance handlers and the body shops. They never jacked up my rates for the 2 not-at-fault incidents and they have always been very responsive and offered excellent customer service.

I just renewed my policy and received $150 dividend credit towards my renewal rates.

I know I may be paying more with AAA than I would elsewhere, but they have given me such great service I don't think I would switch unless something drastic happened.

i've had progressive

have geico for my motorcycle/scooter

farmers for my cars. They won't cover my bike b/c it's considered a "high performance" motorcycle, which is a big crock...

I just switched to Allstate mainly because my Jeep has a lot of aftermarket parts that my former insurer wanted to charge me extra for. Allstate only requires receipts, so I went with them.

A few years ago I was with Wawanesa (San Diego based company). They were GREAT and their rates were SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than anyone else. So much so, I tripled my coverage and added 5k worth of stereo coverage and still paid less than I was paying before. But alas, 2 stereo break-ins and a major accident and my beloved carrier dropped me :( A number of years has passed since then. I considered trying them again, but I figured they've blacklisted me for life after about 25k worth of payouts :P

This might sound kinda weird. I bought a car about a year ago, and I did a bunch of insurance homework. Somehow, it turns out that AAA had the best rates for the same or better coverage. Better than 21st century (what I had before) and a lot of the ones I looked at, even esurance or some of the other newer online ones. Might be different depending on where you are. They have a very good service too.

We have had USAA through Mrs. Kevster's family (my FiL is a retired Marine Corps Colonel) for many years and they simply rock. If you are eligible for USAA, GET IT! You will never regret it, trust me on this! My brother just got it since he's back in the military and just cut his homeowner's insurance costs by about 40% with the same coverages! I have had to deal with them with accidents as well, like this one (http://www.gotapex.com/suckage-not-so-suckage/85211-s-got-into-another-car-accident-last-night.html) and this major one (http://www.gotapex.com/suckage-not-so-suckage/74902-ss-car-accident.html). Both times the customer service and resolution was much better with USAA than when I had to deal with Farmers when the teenager hit me.

I have state farm for the house and car. I'm a little irked my rates are so high for never making a claim or having an accident. All the tickets I had were plea bargained to non moving violations. (I'll be 26 in Sept, single white male.)
That being said, I pay between 505 and 550 per 6 months. I need to raise my deductible from $250 to $500 since I never use it.

I don't recall how much I pay for coverage on my house but I do get a multi-line discount.

I've been with AAA for a few years now. Their rates were quite a bit better than the others I checked into.

However, my when my daughter (22 years old) moved out of our house and about 12 miles closer to Chicago, AAA rates were not as good as State Farm. It was all a matter of how they classify the area where you live.
