Yeah, it's roasting here. 300,000 without power due to storms last week and people have no AC. I'm really surprised at the low death count.

The heat is not so bad. The humidity is awful. I've lived here all my life and I can't recall the weather ever being this miserable.

Bye, I am going to find a walk-in refrigerator to hibernate in. Hopefully stocked full of beer.

yeah, i live in LA, but i went to visit the folks in Sacramento last week, and the heat was uncharacteristically humid.

even here in LA, i live in culver city, and after leaving my window open all day while i'm at work, when i crawl into bed at night, i swear my sheets feel a little damp.

i used to hate humidity with a fierce and undying passion, but just the other day, for some reason, as i was beginning to "glow" (as the ladies like to call it when they sweat), i kind of enjoyed the humidity.

but yes, very hot, and strangely damp.

Saturday and Sunday were horrible (the heat + humidity). I probably lost 5 lbs. because of sweat but gained back about 10 lbs. after the three parties. :D

San Diego covers a wide range of temperatures from the cool coast to the inland deserts. The official temperature is taken at the airport which is right next to the ocean and that was 99 on Saturday! Previous record for that date was 87. El Cajon had their hottest temperature ever recorded at 113. Normal average at the airport would be 76. When this all first hit, I was just tired from it and didn't feel like doing anything but I am starting to adjust to it as well as one can and have resumed most normal activitits. Global warming? Europe is still hot- they had this last year.

It was hot in Pasadena. Saturday it was 120 outside in the sun. Our apartment only has a window box AC. We were packing all weekend for our move next month and I must have lost 5 pounds of water. We went to the mall on Saturday night thinking it would cooler, and Macys was cooler, but the mall itself wasn't ready for that many people. It was busier than Xmas.

It hit 112 in the sun at my place. In Portland. I currently have no AC, and inside it got up to 94. I moved back to Oregon to avoid this.

Yeah, those storms were awful in some places. We were camping and a couple limbs fell and did some damage to the camper. BUT it's not as hot here as it could be. If that second storm hadn't come through to cool off the temps, I think the count would have been higher.

I heard that the storms around vegas were pretty intense. And it's still rather hot there too

smart guy....

Hot weather is not unusual even for decent periods of time. But in so. cal and across the US, cities are recording the highest average temperature per day this year IN RECORDED HISTORY. Granted thats only a hundred years of data, but i would find it more acceptable to believe it was a natural cause if like, So cal, or No Cal, or just one state or area had high temperatures... This is very wide spread and to the extent that it seems to be affecting everyone.

Is anyone living somewhere that it is unsually cool this time of year? It was 119 on saturday for me in the San Fernando Valley and they are threatening us with rolling blackouts... yuck.

Haha bad equipment is why we lose power? I think its all our phantom power loads... I think thats the correct term. But like our computers, our recievers, and all the other equipment that sucks power even while off or not in use... That has to have increased at least 10 fold in the last few years and i imagine that power plants are not being built to keep up..

So i started turning off and unplugging all devices not in use in my place to try and save a little bit... I know its not enough to make a big difference but hopefully a bunch of people will do it and it will help a little.

Stay cool.

I wouldn't care so much if he drove a car but rather if he was doing the best he could to conserve. I think if we all did our best and made sacrafices, things would get better. Even if global warming wasn't of human causes I'd want to try and prevent it as much as possible. I think the ozone hole is a good example of how good practices can make things better.

I found out today that my ex-husband's shop/office controls/manages the blackouts in Northern CA. I don't remember what exactly he said because I was going through a really bad reception spot on my cell. But they almost rolled into one on Friday and Saturday came close too.

That is correct. The reason is because fresh water from glacier melting would inhibit the warm currents that come from like Australia

yes...I drive a car...I drive a car that doesn't CONSUME loads of fuel! drive when I NEED...and ride a bike whenever I can. I do my best to work with what society almost requires of me (due to most everything being so far away). I do my best...I am socially responsible. Then there are those car companies that cut cost of gas to sell more cars! yeah...lets encourage more people to consume!

I live in hong kong now...I use public transportation! if the US had half the public transportation like hong kong did, I would totally use it! whenever I'm in SFO, I use thier public transportation. CAR?!?!?!

Does anyone else question how real global warming is when we only have recorded temperatures back about 100-200 years?

Then there is the question of how much impact do humans have on global warming versus nature.

I've attempted to do some research on it and like most everything today, there is data supporting both sides.

InfiniteNothing

While there is only recorded history, we can know how hot things are for the past millions of years by analyzing rocks at the time.

Also, it's kind of moot, even if it were a natural precedented event, we still have to make some sort of effort in controlling it or suffer the consequences.

Maarchk, weather is here, wish you were beautiful!

:disa:

I would believe we were less responsible for higher temperatures if there was fluctuations in the hot temperatures. LIke if one year was hot and the next few were average than i wouldn't notice. But i imagine if we looked, and i will do this when i finish finals, but i think we would see that the average temps in Los Angeles, and other places have rose a few degrees every year for the past number of years. That , i dont attribute to nature. Nature likes cycles.. humans like trends. but i dont have super hard evidence so i can't tell you for a fact...
but like i said, i'll work on it and get back to you even if i'm wrong. but still.. i'm moving to somewhere cold. I'd take a fire and a warm comforter over sleeping with a "glow" anyday.

Give it another 20 years and there might not be anywhere cold left to move to.

Temperatures are supposed to be around 100 around Chicago for the next couple of days (with humidity to match it). Then a cooling trend starting Wednesday.

why wont it rain here!?!!?
Because then they can write songs.
