Moviegoers may soon be rid of annoyances
ANTIOCH – Loud talking, chair kicking and other movie-theater annoyances may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to a new device similar to the flight attendant call button on airplanes.
Moviegoers at the Regal Deer Valley Cinema complex in Antioch are testing transmitters that deliver a signal to a theater employee's pager when a fellow patron is behaving badly.
Instead of searching the theater lobby for an employee or fuming silently, the transmitter enables people to subtly tell on their neighbors from the comfort of their own seats.
One push of the transmitter's button, and help is on the way, said the Antioch theater's manager, Rob Lorello.
The cinema is one of 10 nationwide trying out the device.

They're taking all the fun out of going to the movies. Now I won't be able to throw my popcorn at the annoyances!

Man those things will go off so frequently it'll lose all meaning.
oh wow, here's my chance to shine: where's the link to the story???

tsk tsk, young grasshopper, the way to shine isn't to ask for the link...
it's to ask for the comment that one is supposed to have instead of cut/paste the news.
you have much to learn....

I think it is better not to ask for either but to embed your suggestion in a witty sarcastic type response.
and I agree with IN. These things will go off all the time.

damn all you naysayers! we must have hope!
i would be so thankful for an effective version of something like this...
alas, i'm not foolish or naive enough to believe this could work either. people will abuse it.

Kids will be hitting them just to keep the ushers busy.

:agree: that kids will abuse them just to see the theater folks scurry around. I wonder how the button will lead them to the wrongdoer. Seems like it would lead them to the moviegoer reporting the wrongdoer instead.
Yet another http://www.spice.co.uk/images/small/missing_link.jpg from Itsme. Also missing comments that are clearly supposed to be added instead of simply cutting & pasting from a news source. Guess that's too much to ask for on a Friday. Here's a link (http://rds.yahoo.com/S=53720272/K=Regal+Deer+Valley+Cinema+complex+in+Antioch/v=2/SID=w/l=NSR/R=4/;_ylt=A9iIgKTg8tNE1G0AmybQtDMD;_ylu=X3oDMTBjb3ZrYjNkBHBvcwM0BHNlYwNzcg--/SIG=12cd4ctr0/EXP=1154827360/*-http%3A//cbs5.com/entertainment/local_story_216013812.html) for those that are interested.
I don't see the biggest annoyance going away: Telling the ACTUAL time when the movie starts, as opposed to when the 15 minutes of credits start to roll.
At the Alamo Drafthouse theaters here in Austin, if someone is being loud they get kicked out by one of the ushers. If someone is being loud you can raise a little flag and they'll come to you as well and you can tell them to take care of it.

I wonder if it would be good to put in nightvision cameras.

I say they arm the ushers with paintball guns and nightvision... That'll shut 'em up!! :fal:
