so i've been going to a handful of shows this year, and i was wondering...
instead of scouring through venue websites and doing random searches on ticketmaster, is there any other resource out there to find out who's playing where, and when?
i used to use Pollstar (http://www.pollstar.com/), but they initiated a paid membership system and began to limit the number of artists that non-members could keep track of.
so now i'm looking for another resource. anyone have any go-to guides for this kinda thing?
by the way, in case it was unclear, i'm talking about live music.

try www.livenation.com.
they list concerts on sale now and upcoming shows for most artists in whichever area your in. just type in your area code (or choose which city/state youre in).
but for more local artists, you may have to check out the venues in your area (something livenation may not cover). Their websites isually list upcoming shows.
Or sign up for their newsletter. i know its a spam trap, but thats why you have a spam folder (or a spam email :) ).
or if you have a more specific artist(s) in mind, check out the artist's website for more info on tourdates if any.
which area are you from?

i'm in Los Angeles.
yeah, i check some of the venue websites from time to time (never thought about signing up for their newletters; that's an idea), and i try to keep up with the artists i enjoy. but that gets overwhelming and pretty time consuming, considering the number of artists i'd like to see.
all in all, this is a request born of laziness. i wish there was just one customizable comprehensive source for artist/show information. pollstar was pretty good until they started limiting the number of artists on users' lists.
i shall just have to be more diligent; i've already missed out on four shows this summer because i found out about them too late or didn't know about them at all. bah...

ha! thats funny - im not from L.A., but i get a weekly update from GOLDENVOICE after attending last year's Coachella. you may want to check out the shows they support (www.goldenvoice.com (http://www.goldenvoice.com)), or sign up for their newsletter too. They pretty much have a good line up of whats coming up in YOUR area.
man, if i lived there my site would have a good list of upcoming concerts there. that being said im in the philly area, and thats mostly what i list on my site (http://www.chosenfool.com).
good luck and happy hunting!

wow, are those all concerts you're either planning on going to or just a list of shows for people reading your site?
i have a friend who's going to ACL and i'm jealous as hell because i can't afford to fly out there...

i hear ya about the $$$.
SOME of the shows listed on my site i already have tickets for (over 1/3 of them)... :D
but the rest are shows i WOULD WANT to go to, if i had the money. think of it as a "wishlist" :P
i spent WAAAAY too much last year on concerts and festivals, and im literally paying for them this year. I dont mind though, cuz they were all very good shows, plus the traveling, meeting people, the whole experience made up for it.
this year, im just scoping out whos coming to town with the local venues. this week is brutal though. tomorrow the foo fighters acoustic show, then theres Tom Petty friday (co-billed with the allman brothers band), and Rancid saturday AND sunday.
yeah, ill be dead monday. :)

Man don't be too jealous, standing in the 100+ degree weather with hundreds of thousands of people on a dirt field is completely miserable. That said, I'm going because my ticket was free :D
