Suggestions for Blogging software

Hey all, I am looking for a blog software to use on my server that I can offer to a bunch of friends and clients. I know that G|A used Moveabletype, but I'm not sure if they are using it anymore (are you GAM's?). My blog is on Blogger.com but I'd like to run the software in-house because I would like to keep the viewer on my site. I would prefer free but if it's cheap enough per client I'd consider it, seeing as I will have about 10 non-commercial clients to start out with. Depending on the success of the site, it could reach into the hundreds so I'm looking to do it right. If anyone knows of any developers that are working with blog software running on Unix let me know. I am not against installing my own free php or perl blog software but I'd prefer pre-packaged software since I can't devote hours per day on it. Any info at all would be appreciated.

I use WordPress for mine (although it's a new install, so no customization or anything yet: http://www.tvismypacifier.com ). And the site I post to weekly, http://www.thetvaddict.com , also uses it. It's great, imo!

mambo/joomla?

these two are whats often used by bloggers who roll their own.

are you looking to have just blogs? usually it ends up having some sort of forum to tie them all together. then you'll also have the request for a gallery of picture of sorts. not sure if youre going to be leaning towards that triage.

Personally i use postnuke - does what i need and what i want. plenty of modules to work with it. very powerful CMS. can accomodate plenty of users.
(though a lot of people dont like it since its kinda bland out of the box. some tweaking required. regular bloggers tend to lean towards Wordpress due to its elegance. it seems much more geared to the individual blogger. its kinda like the MAC as opposed to PN being windows, you get the picture).

I use Wordpress. Easy to install, thousands of templates.

Mambo/Joomla are content management systems and offer more flexibility and scalability than Wordpress. There are many free templates available for Mambo/Joomla as well, but setting up Mambo/Joomla takes quite a bit longer than a Wordpress setup.

Thanks everyone. It will have a forums also but I don't necessarily need their blog accounts to be tied to their forum account. I just want to facilitate easy blogging. Although, Joomia looks pretty cool. I might have to poke around with that a little bit.

i just setup wordpress.

setup was easy, and (as best i can tell) it's got all the features needed for SEO, which is my primary concern.
