When our baby was born, my son's girlfriend couldn't wait to hold her. She said she hadn't held an infant since her little sister was born (about 12? years ago.) After talking to a few other people, we found it was not that uncommon to have never, or rarely, held a baby. I guess we just take baby-holding for granted. There's something very relaxing about holding an infant (unless she's crying, then Mom gets to hold her!)

And it makes some folks incredibly nervous. They hold them like they're going to break, like they're a piece of fine china.
Many people don't often have the occasion to hold a child. And it definitely takes some getting used to...but it can be a very powerful experience.

I usually hold several babies a day, many more days than not. Heck, on some days when my workload isn't very tough, I'll just grab a baby and hold him/her while I do my notes are are looking up labs... at least until they start rooting... then it's back to nurse or mom because well... let's face it, baby ain't gonna get any milk from me. It's the one benefit of my job.

It's been a little over eight months. We had a baby in the house with visitors at Christmas.

Held my cousin's daughter 2 months ago. Can't wait to hold my son when he is born in early December...
I don't think I've every held one of those things.

How you gonna see to hold her? You're gonna end up dropping that little girl if you're not careful. ;)

C'mon! I caught the last six. Yeah, they're slimey, but it's really something special to tell your kid you were the first one to touch them (with your hands, anyway.)
Once I accepted the offer of rubber gloves, and I really regretted it.
