so, in lieu of the other thread wherein i complained about the current state of hip hop, i thought i might share some of the stuff i've been listening to in more recent years. despite what i said before, there IS still some good stuff coming out; it's just too bad these kinds of artists aren't getting more exposure.

so, in hopes that some of you might also share some with me, here are some of the "newer" lesser known (to the general population, that is) groups that i've been listening to:

the perceptionists
little brother
crown city rockers
mr. lif
giant panda
dead prez (loved the first album; subsequent ones have been so-so)
ugly duckling
starving artists crew
strange fruit project
lifesavas

and some guys i've always liked, but continue to make stuff i've enjoyed:

blackalicious
common
the roots
black star (mos and kweli, even tho their latest stuff i haven't been feelin as much)
the coup

all the rest of the hip hop i listen to is pretty much comprised of people who aren't around any more (that's a much longer list) or who stopped making music i liked.

any other recent stuff i should check out?
