Pioneer Electronics is offering a pretty decent incentive for the purchase of an in-dash navigation unit.

Right now through Oct. 1, 2006, Pioneer is offering a free portable AVIC-S1 navigation unti ($600 MSRP) with the purchase of a new in-car double din AVIC-D2 ($1,500 MSRP) from a participating authorized retailer.

Though the D2 does not play DVD video, it does feature just about everything else you would want from a DVD based navigation unit. It contains two drives: one for the DVD-ROM map and another for your CD media (it also plays CD burned MP3s). With optional accessories, you can listen to satellite radio or connect your Apple iPod. I'm really excited about the real-time traffic alerts and rerouting of guidance in case of heavy traffic congestion through XM's NavTraffic system.
