According to their tracking, UPS picked up my package from Amazon.com's warehouse in San Diego on the 22nd. It's now the 26th and do I have my stuff? No! Okay, I'll give them that it was Thanksgiving and there's going to be lots of air traffic on top of the days off for the holiday. BUT, I am IN San Diego and they could drive it over to me in about 20 minutes. Instead, they put it on a plane at Lindberg Field, probably sent it to Washington where it sat in the hanger for the weekend, and have left me waiting for 5 days now.
Use some common sense, UPS.
(BTW-I wasn't stupid enough to ship it by air knowing it was coming from SD. Amazon "upgraded" my shipping method without telling me until I got the confirmation e-mail.)

What service did they upgrade you to?
Friday only counted for NDA packages, so if it was picked up on Wed of last week (22nd), and was NDA, it would have prob gotten to you Friday. If it was 2nd day they upgraded you to, Monday would be the next day for it to be delivered.
I know that on Friday, no Ground packages where to be delivered. And anything ordered on Wed late in the day or Friday will be picked up from the shipper on Monday because of the holiday.
I hope this helps.

Seriously I hate UPS, recently I ordered some SPY goggles for this snowboarding season and on their web site it said that it had been delivered already. Well it had not so I went through the routine of having to call UPS and call the company that sold me my goggles. So I go through all this crap and they finally decide to send me another pair of goggles. I had not gotten the new goggles when this lady knocks at my door one day with a package in her hand. Of course UPS had delivered it to the wrong house. So I had to call the company back and tell them to cancel the order because I got the order. Then UPS called my house saying that I was trying to scam them into getting another pair of goggles. Well then they had to talk to the lady that got my goggles and that straightened everything out.
A trouble with UPS can create a lot of hell.

oh the problems I have had with ups. Where to start? I have sent packages and paid extra so that they have delivery confirmation, and half the time it is not done. I have packages left on my doorstep bunches of times, and have been lifted. It has taken them 2 weeks to ship a package from syracuse to california. The real kicker is when it took 2 weeks to go from syracuse to albany. I ship usps whenever I get the chance.

I think the root of a lot of these problems (at least mine with UPS) is that they don't count weekends as days unless you have next day service. Apparantly, at UPS when the weekend comes, planes stop in mid-flight, vans pull over to the side of the road, and the people at the distrubution centers shut off the lights and go home. Something is wrong with the government will work over the weekend to deliver mail, but a for-profit company won't take the opportunity to make more money.

You are absolutly right about the weekend thing. They count business days only. But it isn't why you think. The drivers and hubs all are unionized. And if you remember the strike from a few years back, these people are the back bone of the UPS company. (heh, besides the tech support :) ) And believe me, I don't make half as much as they do and I don't get half the amount of time off that they do.

Yeah, but just because they're union doesn't prohibit working on the weekends. So what's the big problem with working on the weekends unless you have religious convictions about otherwise.

They negotiated it into the contract. A lot of people work without working weekends. They have a very strong union, if you remember the strike a couple years back. And also, you have to remember the majority of their business is businesses with 9-5 m-f office hours. I am not trying to defend them, I am just trying to give a little insight.
Another point is the service the shipper chooses when shipping the package. Unless it is marked Saturday delivery, which will/can only be processed on a Friday with NDA service, the packages will not move over the weekend (air packages for normal NDA will travel to be delivered on Monday.).
