Ya, the news has been out for like a week. Sadly I missed the first round of pre-orders.

The already had pre-orders? Damn. Amazon was supposed to email me when pre-orders were available. I'd be ok with getting the email and them being sold out by the time I try to order, but to not get the email at all kinda sucks.

Anybody know if the Wii supports HD?

Wii will support EDTV (480P)

Wii technically has the hardware to support HD but games will NOT as altho it "technically" could in theory put out that many pixels, the games would look lame due to lack of horsepower.
Speaking of the Wii launch I must say I am a bit disappointed. The price is not very enabling, now I know it is cheap compared to the other systems but Gamecube has been $100 forever and this isn't much more system. We are paying a lot of money to use a new controller.

I get what you're saying but it's substantially more than just a new controller. A new line of game titles will come out due to the release. There are also a good amount of additional functionality/options that is not available on the gamecube like the online gameplay.

I think it was a great idea to stay out of the power competition between xbox and ps3, and try to provide a system that has a broader range of appeal. I thought I was done with buying game consoles (my last one being sega dreamcast), until I heard about the Wii. That's just my take though.

I'm still a bit skeptical on how this new controller will handle itself, but I must say that I have not read one disappointing article regarding this system yet.

I am skeptical as well. One of the main things that really took me down a few pegs was learning that in Zelda if you swing the controller in a particular fashion (aka downward swing) it does NOT mean that Link will swing his sword as such. I could swing up and down and Link could twirl and dance and do whatever.
That, to me, is poor execution, something I have RARELY ever said about Nintendo, and really makes me wonder if its worth paying $50 less than an Xbox for games that are substantially less graphically advanced, and have less power to work with. This may not seem like a big deal but think of Mario Kart Double Dash... no 4 Player Grand Prix due to horsepower. Now you say the Wii is 2.5x as strong so of course 4P GP will be included. Now think of this, 2 player GP on gamecube only runs in 30fps and lots of courses take out items such as Thwomps in Koopa's Castle just to maintain 30. Now you are going to tell me the Wii will have better graphics, not cripple itself, and run at a fluid 6 on 4 player? Not a chance. Those are things you miss out on and the graphics I don't mind as much, but playability is no good.

I am not disputing that it is much better than Gamecube, with the new controller and the online play... I only question its position so close in price to the other, more powerful, systems, especially considering the lack of intuition in the controller w/ for example Zelda. Also.. including 4K of memory in the controller? It would literally probably cost about 20 cents to make that 256 or 512K which is a HECK of a lot more when you are talking on that scale (64 or 128 times more).

So thats what I'm thinking.
