Despite of the fact that it is less than two months left till the launch of the highly-anticipated PlayStation 3 game console, the gaming machine still does not seem to be mature enough an technical problems still exist, according to an analyst, who claims that the part operates with constant errors and had to be rebooted.

PlayStation 3 units on display at the Tokyo Game Show about 10 days ago operated erratically and had to be repeatedly reset, according to a report released Monday by Macquarie Equities analyst David Gibson in Tokyo, reports Toronto Star news-paper.

“While the reason for this is unknown, we suspect it may be due to overheating as a result of enclosing the units and the high temperatures at the venue. We are concerned that such a problem has occurred so close to full production and is clearly negative news for the company,” Mr. Gibson is reported to have written.

This is no news that game consoles may operate incorrectly due to various reasons. For example, late last year numerous users claimed that their Xbox 360 game console worked instably or even produced graphics artifacts. Microsoft said at that time that even there were quite a number of people unsatisfied with the quality, their relative number as a part of those, who acquired Xbox 360 was not high.

The main concern for Sony now is that the demo consoles crash just weeks before product launch, which may potentially delay the release or cause necessity to replace the faulty consoles eventually. Additionally, crashes further rise question whether picking up the leading-edge technology, such as Cell or Blu-ray, was the right decision for the PlayStation 3.

Sony PlayStation 3 console is based on the Cell processor developed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba, the RSX graphics chip by Nvidia Corp. and will be equipped with Blu-ray optical disk drive, a hardware part, which is merely available today.

They're linux based aren't they? I wonder what's causing the crashes. Maybe a heat issue.

And yet...I'm sure they're still going to cut corners so they can make the "deadline" in time...

So every new product has flaws... Shocking!!!
Its a matter if they will have it together or not. I mean you can't really upgrade hardware on the fly. But you can upgrade software which kind of ticked me off. I dont know if it was the 360 or some other system i read where they were releasing games that still had a couple bugs in them and then they would work out a patch and release it as part of the live content upgrade and so if you didn't have the internet connection you could potentially play a game and get stuck at a bug with no way to get around. It was so dumb and yet i would totally believe that people would do that.

I think the only real reason this is news, is because everyone started to cry foul about "How could microshaft release equipment with issues?!! WTF Sony wouldn't do that!" When people had already forgotten that the PS2 came out originally with problems, it just wasn't a bit deal. Speaking of that, ALL Consoles and most Electronics release with problems. It just seemed to be made into a bigger deal when Microsoft did it because they are Microsoft.

So I think the point of the whole thing is to just point out that all consoles have their problems. And the PS3 is no better. And maybe even a little worse who knows (with all of the untested tech inside.. Cell processor etc.)

How thorough of an investigation can you expect from someone who doesn't thoroughly read their own article? :wavey2:

I don't think we're arguing the same point. My point was that when you take a console that runs HOT and put it in an entertainment center or otherwise enclosed space, it's going to overheat and crap out. It doesn't matter who the maker is.

Ahh.. well in that case. Makes sense.

Electronics Fail I think is the general rule of anything. And stupid people help that along :)
