I got this check from
Your Opinion Counts
101 2nd Street 22nd Floor
San Francisco, CA 94105
It's a fleet bank check and it's only for $2. But what the hell, it's a free $2. So I cashed it and it came back today and my bank said the check bounced. And now I'm out $10 for the check bounce fee. I was wondering if anyone else got the same thing.

I'm sorry but that is just too funny.. (Anyone want to start a relief fund for those who cashed it and are out the bounced check fee?? didn't think so.. hehe) But bounced off of a 2 dollar check?? Shit.. sounds like my checking account..

It's hard not to... This is funny.. I mean I'm not trying to be an ass to who this happened to, but it's just hillarious how it happened. I'd say SUE! Sue for the bounce check fee and the emotional distress it caused you and it made you pee your pants (that's a guaranteed 1000 dollars in a car accident case from what I hear), and that it cause you impotence so now your wife or girlfriend can sue.. I see $$$$'s in his future! =0)

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
you are one funny expletive, man
I think the guy should admit himself to a hospital for the tragically _ _ _ _ _ _ up.....that way when he goes to court they can bring him in a straight jacket and he can drool all over himself and say wierd thing like..."2 dollah to buy da bread" "2 dollah fah milk"
the defense attorney can never get through that ....
then, when they are about to give the ruling , stand up and say "I have crapped the castle again...and the skin midgets that are guarding it are all covered in poopy"...
Your kids will even be rich from that one

HAHHAHAHAHAH There is no way I can top that one! I apologize Thorin78, we aren't laughing at you, we are psychologically (or psychotically, whichever you prefer) trying to think of ways that you can take this to court! if an old lady can get millions from spilling hot coffee, and a burgler can get money for cutting himself, then you can get money for this! Get Johnny Cochran to do the Chewbaca defense to get you some moola!

I don't think I got a bounced check fee, I hope not.
What a crappy company, they don't even have $$ to cash two freakin bucks.
I am sick of stupid internet companies.

Okay. I read this thread, then went and checked my checking account online and there it is, $6 "returned item fee" and $2 "returned item." That is the most f**ked up thing I have ever seen. Anyone know a web site address? I tried the obvious (www.youropinioncounts.com) and got a 404. This really pisses me off. Not, I'm sure, that there is anything I can do about it. If they didn't have the money, why not just not send out the checks?

Their website is http://www.youropinioncounts.org
That really s*cks that they screwed you guys like that.

had this happen last month. my mom wrote a check to pay off a credit card bill; the credit card company wrote back to say that it had bounced, slapping on a $25 fee. my mom calls to investigate, since there was plenty of money in her checking account, and the credit card company's bank said that it bounced because the account number didn't exist (even though they initially said it was insufficient funds.) keystroke error on their part. letter-writing required after the phone calls, then a big apology and refund of the fee. if everyone else is cashing theirs without a problem, i'd say that's what happened. unless you let the check sit around too long and it expired (unlikely...)

Last time I checked, you could sue for 10 times the amount of the check or $300, whichever is greater. I ain't a lawyer, but if I remember correctly it varies from state to state.

I think it's funny too, how's a company (non-profit org? since it's a .org) supposed to do business if they send out checks that can't be cashed.
I don't even know why they sent me the check in the first place. I don't even remember signing up with them. I did a whois lookup on them and they're not even based anywhere near San Fran.
P.S. a preview of alladvantage? hehe.
P.P.S. How many people do you need for a class action law suit?

Hey THEKID, you're one halarious guy man!! After reading your post, and again, and once again, my sides were hurting so much from laughing. Then I read it outloud and everyone around me who heard what you wrote, that was if they could catch what I was saying cuz I was busting up even as I was reading it, they were laughing too. Anyway, I dont intend to cash in that check since its only 2 bucks and well, since their site doesnt work anymore, doubt the 2 dolla check will go through. I'm laughing now, but I'd be crying like thorin78 and the others who got slapped the penalty fee for a bounced check.

I think that trying to be somewhat funny about any of these little issues that we encounter is good for all of us -- it gives us a little more perspective on the big things that are going on in the world - like the fact that my kids can't go to school in the morning without having me call 5 times a day to make sure they haven't been shot.....in the big picture, we all know that a 10$ bounced check fee is kinda petty....still sucks that it happened..
Sorry if I offended anyone and hope that you all got a laugh...he he he MORE TO COME

hey, i just looked in my little stack of little checks from surveys etc that i was about to go deposit - and whaddaya know, a yoc two dollar check was in the pile. sheesh. i didn't know banks would charge YOU for depositing someone else's bad check. fuc*ers.
especially strange since they seem to be a startup rather than a bedridden terminal cancer patient of a dot-com - way to build that loyal customer base.
a much better place for surveys is pinecone.com (or maybe pineconeresearch.com) - $5 flat per 10-20 min survey, no minimum for payout and a VERY quick payout. it's for product development, and sometimes they send you good stuff to eat that isn't even on the market yet! (i'm assuming they already tested it on the wistars and the LD50 was a lot higher than the sample sizes they send out...)

The upside of this is that if you hurry you can be the first person to post them on f**kedcompany.com! They may have screwed you out of $12 but think of the points man.... THE POINTS!!!!

I don't know how many people got screwed on this one, or if this will help or not, but I called my bank (Washington Mutual) and asked that they reverse the "returned item" charge ($6) on my account. I told the lady on the phone that I had been a good customer and had never bounced a check (or deposited one that bounced, as in this case), and that it sucked getting dinged $6 for a $2 returned check, and she reversed the charge. She didn't even appear to need much convincing. For those of you that deposited the check and got dinged, maybe a 5 minute call to your bank can help out.
